About One to One

Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole private tutor

Hello! I'm Mrs Bridges

I am a private tutor based in Christchurch, Dorset providing both online and in person lessons. In person lessons can be either at my home-based classroom in Christchurch or I can travel within the BCP area to your home.

I tutor children from ages 8 to 18 and adults across a broad range of subject areas to help them reach their full potential.

I am passionate about helping students of all abilities achieve success. One to one tuition is the best way of enabling a student to realise their potential through the bespoke learning environment that one to one lessons provide.

Teaching Background

I am DBS cleared and have taught (and still teach) at a primary school in Bournemouth. I am currently teaching in Year 6 but have taught across all year groups during my 21 years at the school.

My curriculum knowledge is up to date and I strive to stay at the cutting edge of teaching methods. For example, I am fully acquainted with bar modelling and online platforms such as Hegarty Maths and My Maths, offering homework support in both areas.

I have degree in Maths from the Open University and a foundation degree in Primary Education from University of Plymouth, as well as over 20 years of classroom experience.

Teaching Style

I believe that every child has the ability to reach their full potential if they adopt a growth mindset. I am proud that I treat children as individuals, listen to their concerns and tailor their tutoring to help them grow as learners.

I feel it is important to spend time getting to know my pupils so that I can teach and support them in the best way. I do not believe that teaching them to just pass a test will help them in the future. The required skills have to be taught discretely before applying these skills to a test paper.

The pace of teaching the curriculum means that many learners feel overwhelmed and are unable to reach a confidence level in many skills. It is my job to bridges these gaps to create confident learners. There is no greater feeling than seeing pupils grow in confidence and overcome challenges.

Success Stories

I have had the privilege to help more than 300 pupils pass their 11+ grammar test, setting them on a path to educational success. Many of my pupils scored within the top 20% of the result tables. All of my pupils who passed have secured a place at their chosen grammar school.

In addition to this I have helped four adults, to pass their fundamental maths skills test, to enable them to proceed onto teacher training. They have now all qualified and secured jobs in both primary and secondary schools.

One of my mature students who had struggled all through school, with my help, managed to pass his maths and English functional skills test, enabling him to complete his apprenticeship and start his own business.

I was overwhelmed last year when a past pupil, whom I hadn’t seen for 7 years, knocked on my door on A’ Level results to let me know that she had been accepted into an outstanding university to study maths. She said that her lifelong love of maths had been ignited from her time spent with me.

As well as these exam successes, I have helped more than two hundred children, acquire new skills, become more confident and reach their potential.
